What we found

The last scan surfaced 214 candidate copies of The Salt Harvest, of which 168 were confirmed as the full text rather than a sample chapter or a listing for a legitimate retailer. The bulk sit on shadow-library mirrors that re-index each other, so a single upload propagates to a dozen domains inside a week.

Two patterns account for most of the volume. First, the EPUB stripped of its retailer DRM and reuploaded under a slightly altered filename, which defeats exact-hash matching but not text fingerprinting. Second, aggregator pages that host no file at all and simply link out — low value individually, but they are what ranks in search for the title plus “free pdf”.

What is being done

The title is under active monitoring. Confirmed copies are filed as takedown notices against the host and, where the host ignores them, against the search engines that index the page. Re-uploads are caught on the next scan cycle rather than waiting for the author to report them.
